The Bermuda Insurance Diploma

The Bermuda Insurance Diploma ("BID"), which was introduced in 1970, is widely recognised by insurance employers in Bermuda.  More than 500 people have graduated from the programme and many of these have advanced to management positions in the insurance industry.  Recognising the high standard of the Diploma exemptions are granted by the Chartered Insurance Institute and the Insurance Institute of America to BID graduates taking professional designations

General Entry Requirements:

The minimum entry requirement is High School Graduation including Traditional English Language with an ‘A’ or ‘B’ grade.

A sound general educational background is needed to succeed in the programme. 

The programme consists of four subjects and candidates can choose either the US or UK route as detailed below:

US Route

Property and Liability Insurance Principles    (INS21)

Personal Insurance                                           (INS22)

Commercial Insurance                                      (INS23)

UK Route

Insurance Practice and regulation          (P01)

Business Practice                                    (P04)

Insurance Law                                          (P05)

INS 21, INS22 and INS 23

These are courses from the Insurance Institute of America’s programme in General Insurance Courses are offered twice a year: September to January and February to June.

BERMUDA INSURANCE MARKET      

The course focuses on Bermuda Insurance.  Students study the growth of the industry, Legislation and Management and Transfer of Risk.  The course also includes a research paper (5,000 words) on an insurance company domiciled in Bermuda and is worth 25% of final mark.

The BIM course is offered twice a year: September to January and February to June.
